You gotta start somewhere…. right? So as much as I hate to send this out into the wild, here is a “before” shot, taken at a recent spring festival. When I saw this one pop up on Facebook, I barely recognized myself. Uuuuggghhhh. I’m huuuuge! Serious motivation to find a healthy way of living that works.
Since discovering the LCHF way, I have been reading everything I can find online about it. My plan is to stay on the diet at least until I have my annual physical this year and see what my numbers look like. Last year saw things like sugar, blood pressure, and cholesterol trending on the high side. While these last two years have been productive and exciting in many ways, I have suffered through them with back pain, sore joints and poor sleep. I want to lose the weight in a healthy way before I get anywhere near diabetes, high blood pressure or worse!
I chose today as my starting point because my partner (hereinafter known as “Mountain Man”) has departed for a two week tour down the East coast. I’ve read that switching to the LCHF and ketogenic way of eating can cause a rough “adaptation” period, and nobody wants to share a two room cabin with that! I’ve got this weekend to get through the initial shock to my system, and then a couple of weeks worth of space here to get acclimated.
I do not know what my weight was when this photo was taken. As you can imagine, I was at a point where I was feeling like nothing I tried was working, and I was avoiding the scale. As of today, I am topping out at 268lbs on my 5’9″ frame. That means I’ve got a 68lbs to lose before I break into the “100 club.” Ultimately, I’d like to lose about 70 lbs. I’m giving myself a couple of years to do it. I’m not in any huge hurry and I want to do this in a sustainable way so that I don’t ever have to avoid the scale again. Wish me luck!

Please note: I am not a doctor or nutritionist. While this LCHF and ketogenic diet experiment has worked well for me so far, your mileage may vary. This diet needs to be balanced correctly, in order to avoid potential side effects. It is always a good idea to discuss any major health decisions with your doctor before getting started.
